Today I took a trip to Birmingham and paid my first ever visit to the brand new Forever 21 store. It's the only Forever 21 currently in the UK and opened a few weeks before Christmas. I have to say I was just a little excited to see it! Although I didn't actually end up buying any clothes (major disappointment!) I did have a good nosey around the store. It's actually pretty nicely laid out, the same as the larger stores in the US (if anyone has been to the Las Vegas Flagship store, it's very similar to that) set out over three floors.

As with previous visits to Forever 21, I tried on various items of clothing but didn't end up buying any of them. I tend to get overwhelmed by the selection and just buy basics if I do pick up anything, but as always I was very impressed with the jewellery selection. A literal treasure trove of affordable jewellery with walls and walls covered in enticing gems! Price wise, as common with US brands, they have basically changed the Dollar sign to a Pound so it does work out more expensive, but still very affordable. Similar prices to H&M.

I did make a little purchase in the form of a necklace that I've been on the hunt for forever. Actually I picked up two different variants on the necklace in order to layer them...

Pretty thin gold chains with pink/coral 'stones' (fake ones!) held within it a la Tiffany's Diamonds by the Yard!

I also picked up one of the finer chains as a little New Year's giveaway gift for one of you!

If you'd like to win it all you have to do is:

1. Be a follower of my blog
2. Enter a comment on this post
3. Don't forget to include your email address so that I can get in contact if you win!

Good Luck and let me know if any of you have managed to pay Forever 21 Birmingham a visit yet!

I have always been interested in the idea of whitening my teeth, but have been put off by the sky high bills quoted for professional whitening, and if (like me!) you are based in the UK, you will no doubt be aware of the limited selection and effectiveness of whitening kits available on the high street.

While at a party last week, I bumped into a long lost friend who had newly dazzling white teeth and told me that it was all down to the fabled Crest White Strips. She'd managed to bag a box on eBay for around £30, but as a certain American (MissGlamorazzi aka Ingrid) was winging her way to these shores only two days after, I sent her a last minute request for a packet or two.

And she delivered!

For those of you in the US and for some of you in the UK who may have tried these already, I'm sure this post may be a little dull as they are very commonly used over there, but for anyone and everyone who might be interested, I will be trying these out for the next two weeks in order to do a full review of the experience. Keep your eyes peeled! (But be warned... unflattering teeth close-ups may be on their way!)

For those who have already tried these, I'd love to hear about your experiences with them!

Batiste have recently added yet another variant to their cult dry shampoo line. Batiste Brit comes emblazoned with the union jack, claiming to smell quintessentially British. Sounds great, apart from the fact that I'm not entirely sure how they worked out what smells 'British'?! Either way, the new scent is a hit with me. I much prefer it to the original and floral, which are a little much for me personally!
It is marketed at being more of a 'unisex' scent than the previous variants, which I really like as the fragrance is not overly floral or sweet, but more fresh and clean (which, let's face it, is what you're looking for in a dry shampoo!)

As I couldn't make it to the fabulous British-themed tea party launch a few weeks ago, Batiste kindly sent me a bag of goodies in the post to give away to you all, including a can of the new Batiste Brit, along with the Gold Shimmer, Silver Shimmer and Nude variants, a fabulous diamante encrusted Denman hairbrush and a mini Batiste hair brush.

To win this bag of goodies, all you need to do is:

1. Be a follower of my blog
2. Write a comment on this post
3. Don't forget to include your email address so I can contact you if you do win!

Good Luck girls and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas! Batiste Brit is available now at Superdrug.

On a little side note, sorry for the lack of posts this week and next - You all know what it's like at Christmas I'm sure but rest assured I'll be back to blogging at my usual pace in the new year!

I'm currently obsessed with Yankee candles (you may have noticed if you frequent my YouTube channel and blog!) It's an obsession that is now verging on the ridiculous. Having discovered that Yankee Candle make lip balms last week, but that they apparently don't sell them in the UK, I (of course!) made it my mission to get my hands on one (or many).

I ended up buying three from ebay (click here for the seller) and paying quite a premium... £15 for three I believe, but aren't they just beautiful?!

The packaging is just like the little Yankee Candle jars! The scents are true to their candle counterparts, and my festive favourite is definitely Sparkling Cinnamon! The consistancy is quite oily (in a good way), very moisturising and has the bonus of SPF15.

Having dropped my preferred Yankee Candle online store YankeeDirect.com an email, I can confirm that they are going to be getting the full line in stock in the new year. Can't wait to try them all!

Any other Yankee Candle obsessives who have tried these already?! Fx

You may remember my review of Avon's gorgeous new matte shade 'Violetta' a few weeks ago. (If not, check it out here!)

Well... The lovely ladies at Avon were kind enough to send not one, not three, but TEN bottles of Violetta to give away to you all as a little Christmas treat! The giveaway closes on the Christmas Eve so they won't be with you by Christmas, but (beautifully manicured) fingers crossed they may well be with you for New Years Eve!

In order to win, all you need to do is:

1. Be a follower of my blog
2. Write me a comment
3. Include your email address so that I can get in contact if you win

The 10 winners will be announced on Christmas Eve, good luck girls!

I've tried many face masks over the years, but have yet to find one that is gentle enough for my skin (i.e. doesn't make it sting when applied, red when washed off or dried out after use) and effective. Until now! If you're looking for something to effectively perk up your dull winter complexion for the festive season, then look no further!

I have recently discovered Melvita's Purifying Mask. A twice a week treat for your skin that is more gentle than most and doesn't leave your skin feeling parched, but rather soft, smooth and plumped.

Containing 10% green clay to help minimise the appearance of pores, tea tree to help reduce blemishes and aloe vera and green tea to help revitalise and refresh the skin. It also contains lavender oil, which dominates the scent of the product, making it relaxing to use. Better yet, it's 99.22% natural and 16.20% organic so you don't have to worry too much about those nasty chemicals present in many face masks.

Melvita also recommend to apply it for 10-15 minutes whilst you're in the bath, as the steam will help the ingredients to really penetrate the skin. A perfect addition to your relaxing bathtime routine! Priced at £18 and available online and in store.

Following on from my two YouTube gift guide videos 'What to buy HER for Christmas' and 'What to buy HIM for Christmas' I decided to do my third and final stocking filler gift guide here on my blog.

Whether you're buying for friends or family on a budget, or filling a stocking for your girlfriend, wife, mother etc these are my top gift picks (mostly!) under £10.

Firstly we have this cute-as-a-button Burt's Bees lip balm gift tin. Designed with a ribbon to hang on your tree and containing three of their most popular lip balms (Pomegranate, Honey and Beeswax) this is a risk-free gift in this cold weather, as everyone's lips are in need of a treat I'm sure! £8.50 from FeelUnique.

My all time favourite candles for the festive period, Yankee Candles, also make fabulous gifts. The small jars are especially good for stocking fillers or token gifts for your friends and family and will leave their houses smelling wonderfully festive. Currently 1/3 off RRP (£7.50) at YankeeDirect, enter the code 'fleurdeforce' at checkout for an extra 10% off and these can be yours for just £4.50. My personal favourite Christmas scents have got to be Christmas Eve and Christmas Cookie.

The next is one for the long haired amongst us. If you know someone who struggles with knotty tresses, treat them to a 'Tangle Teezer'. These ergonomically designed plastic brushes fit perfectly in your hand and will painlessly de-tangle even the knottiest mane in next to no time.(A personal life saver for me!) £7.95 delivered from Amazon.

Especially good for mums, Caudalie's fabled Beauty Elixir had been released in a limited edition bottle decorated with gold leaves. The perfect handbag size in 30ml, this fabulous product works in a similar way to MAC's Fix+ (only with better ingredients!). Use it as a refreshing face spritz throughout the day, as a toner or to set your makeup. The limited edition bottle is available now in stores for £11 or you can pick up the original for £9.35 delivered from FeelUnqiue.

My choice of Nail polish this Christmas has to be chrome. When it comes to metallic polishes, you don't get much better than MyFace Cosmetics' selection of lil' bling polishes. My personal favourites are Gilt-y and Diamonds and Pearls. They dry to an almost chrome finish and are priced at only £5.99. Boots are also offering a fabulous deal at the moment. If you spend £15 on MyFace Cosmetics, they'll give you a 'Box of Bling' containing three full size products including Diamonds and Pearls lil' bling polish, a silver lip gloss and black eye pencil for free! It also comes with a voucher for £3.50 off your next purchase of MyMix foundation. Available while stocks last.

For those who want to take the metallic look to another level, Rebel Nails' chrome nail wraps are a must this winter. Allowing you to get the 'Minx Manicure' look in your own home, these will only set you back £7.99 and are available from RebelNails.co.uk

The next products actually got a mention only a few days ago so I will not dwell on them, but the miniature products from MOR really do make the most beautiful gifts. Starting from £9, these divine smelling treats are available in House of Fraser.

Last but not least, I had to include this super cute laser cut heart necklace. Strung on a sterling silver chain, this dinky necklace would make the perfect gift for one of the loves in your life. £25, available from Go Jewellery.

I hope that has given you all some inspiration for the last of your Christmas shopping. It's fair to say I'd be one happy girl on Christmas day if santa left all these goodies in my stocking! Now all that's left to do is relax with a big mug of mulled wine and a warm mince pie. Enjoy!

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Today my boyfriend and I along with a few friends, ventured out to a country Christmas fair. Classic Sunday afternoon activity this time of year. But to make it a little more adventurous we decided to take our little springer/cocker spaniel cross, Woof with us! She's normally very badly behaved in public places as she really does live up to her name, but she was great today and thoroughly enjoyed herself. I thought it might be fun to include some snaps of her day for you all... So not beauty related but fun none the less!

She started the day raring to go...
Met some friends, old...
And new!
Stopped for a cuppa...
And a quick relax...
Found a bush to sit in...
And a wall to stand on!
Bought a £1 teddy bear from the Market stalls - bargain!
Played with Sam and the teddy bear...
Shattered in the car on the way home with her new friend!
All in all a great day was had by all! With plenty of fresh air and walking for Woof, and plenty of mulled wine, Christmas stalls and eclectic antique shops for the rest of us, we're all feeling particularly festive! Fx

In fact, I'd say they're the prettiest stocking fillers! Australian body care brand MOR's packaging is not just pretty, it's outstanding. Their products are all exquisitely packaged, making them a rather indulgent purchase for yourself, or absolutely fabulous gifts!

They make such an enticing selection of little lip balms, soaps, body butters and candles, it can be hard to chose, but if you're looking for that perfect little stocking filler I can recommend these two beauties.

The 'Soapette' is as cute as it's name suggests, a highly scented mini soap packaged in beautiful tissue paper and presented in a gorgeous embossed tin, even the soap itself is decorated with the company design. They come in a variety of MOR's signature scents including Marshmallow, Belladonna and Cassis Noir. Priced at £9, it's not cheap for a mini soap but makes such a cute little gift, especially for frequent travelers.

Another fabulous product is their 'Mini Butter' (a travel sized version of their traditional 150g Body Butter) that comes in a gorgeous box tied with a pretty pink bow. Enriched with Shea butter, Cocoa Butter and Avocado Oil it has a rich, moisturising formulation and the delicate scent lingers on the skin throughout the day. £15 for 50g.

Previously quite hard to come by in the UK, MOR products are now available from the new Apothecary section in House of Fraser. Their hand creams and lip balms are also more than worth a look. Happy Shopping!

I was recently offered the chance to try out a food supplement product called Help: Clear Skin made by Works with Water which claims to work using milk proteins.

As I've never had specific problems with my skin (although it is suffering at the moment, but that's another story!) I offered the trial to my friend who has had an awful few months battling with adult onset acne. Here's what she had to say:

Ok so, here goes....

I changed my pill, broke up with a boy and all of a sudden my close to perfect skin disappeared to reveal a hideous amount of spots, large pores, swellings almost like blisters and black heads noticeable from the moon! I spent months on different antibiotics, face solutions and have traulled the most expensive beauty counters for facial products promising a close to immaculate complexion... nothing has worked. Bad skin is not what a girl wants or needs in the world of singledom and attempting to climb the ladder at a marketing agency!!

So I thought 'why not' give a food supplement a try. After all, most people say its not what you put on the skin but changing the hormones and diet from within!

Week 1
Just before I started the course my skin was not too bad, just coverable and at the point where I feel I can just about brave the world as long as I keep my make up on! I had recently finished a course of antibiotics as I had a slight infection from the spots, so it had mildly recovered... so to speak.

The powder is quite simple to use, mixed with a flavoured drink (taken twice a day) it dissolves and only mildly taints my orange juice - I will put up with it. There are no quick fixes after all!

After a week my skin seems slightly better, I try not to get excited as this is a regular occurrence with my skin and the threat of new spots is always on the horizon.

I quickly get in to a routine of using the powder and my house mate is on hand to make sure I don’t forget!

Week 2 - 3
I have discovered (it does say on the packet) that this powder can be mixed with food! Good times! It is completely undetectable this way!

My skin appears to be noticeably better. Although I still have spots, my skin definitely seems healthier. The pores and blackheads seem much fewer and where there are no spots the skin is good!

Week 4
Unfortunately, my skin does not seem any better or any worse than when I started. After two weeks of improved skin, I think perhaps the stress of a new job and moving house (which I have done during the course!) may have hindered it.

In summary, I feel that generally skin is a very tricky thing to master and the hormone change from my pill linked with stress has obviously tipped me over the edge, I can only hope that enjoying my new job and lease on life teamed together with gentle face cleansers will eventually help my skin fall into a routine.

I actually really liked the supplement as a whole, and the concept of the product. They are conveniently portioned out, easy to use, and definitely not something I would feel ashamded to buy (like Freederm). I did notice promising results for the first three weeks of the course, but I think the effects were overridden by my stress levels! I think that the product is definitely worth a try if, like me, you have tried almost everything else under the sun to help improve your skin!

The supplement is priced at £14.99 for one week's supply, or £49.99 for one month's supply and is available from Tesco, Waitrose, Asda, Holland & Barratt and online.

This week I am giving you all the chance to win one months supply of Help: Clear Skin, along with one of their limited addition purses created by Bedcrumb London which is the perfect way to carry your sachets around in style when you're out and about!

All you need to do in order to enter is:

1. Be a follower of my blog
2. 'Like' the Works with Water Facebook page (please don't forget this step as it will be double checked)
3. Write a comment on this post including your email address so that I can get in touch if you win!

Good Luck!

Yesterday I made a visit to the absolutely divine Miller Harris store on Bruton Street and fell in love.

I'm sure many of you may already be tiring with my ongoing obsession with scented candles, but this addition to my collection is just a little more sophisticated than my usual Christmas-scented choices and certainly deserves it's own blog post.

I have to admit it was a hard decision, as all of Miller Harris' fragrances are completely intoxicating. The fragrance that really caught my attention however, was L'air de Rien. The fragrance that founder Lyn Harris created for Jane Birkin in 2006.
Described as 'mysterious, ethereal and airy', L'air de Rien was created as somewhat of an anti-fragrance, Birkin wanting a fragrance to embody her personality and rekindle memories of dusty libraries and old books. The result is truly exquisite. One of those scents that you just cannot stop returning to smell again and again. Birkin's doodles were even included in the design of the products themselves and the packaging.

The line itself is not cheap, starting at £36 for the candle but in my opinion it is more than worth splashing out on as an original and intoxicating gift or just an extravagant treat for yourself. The Eau de Parfum has firmly secured a spot on my Christmas wish list!
On a side note, if you are passing through Mayfair, the shop itself is worth dropping in to even just to experience the ethos of the brand, which has a small, carefully selected line of lifestyle products to accompany the scents including fragrant olive oils, a selection of teas (which you can also enjoy in their mini cafe!) and even their own line of beautiful Miller Harris wallpaper.

Their super cute mini candles (above, front row) are also well worth a look, and make wonderful gifts!

I must admit it is with a measure of guilt that I write this post. I have found a new fragrance that I love, but I don't really want to tell you all what it is. If I do, just promise you won't judge me, OK?

OK. So the fragrance in question is from Playboy (cringe!) and it's called 'Play Lovely'. Before you all click off this post in shock horror, please keep reading as I really think this tarty little number is worth your consideration.

It may not have the best reputation or packaging, but it does smell delicious. In my opinion, just like a freshly made Mojito! Not your usual scent, but I think my Mojito take on the fragrance comes from the citrus top notes (and maybe the alcohol?!). It settles into a slightly more complex fragrance on the skin but remains super sweet, sugary and lighthearted. All in all, this is a fun fragrance that doesn't claim to be anything more than it is: Cheap and cheerful!

50ml Eau de Toilette for £9.45 including delivery at CheapSmells.com... you can't go wrong!

I've recently had the pleasure of trying out Elemis' fabled Frangipani Monoi Moisture Melt, a multi-purpose oil treatment that remains solid at room temperature. After heating the bottle up in a glass of warm water, the oil is ready to use. I initially tried it as a body oil after showering, which is lovely but after using it as wash out 15 minute hair treatment, it seems wasted used on the body!

The beautifully fragrant oil leaves my hair so soft, shiny and re-nourished. A real treat for stressed or damaged hair and the perfect way to have a quick unwind at home.

It is quite pricey at £29 but the bottle will last you a good while. If you're quick, there is also a travel sized bottle included in todays QVC's Special Value offer!

Beyonce's debut fragrance 'Heat' Was my favourite fragrance of the summer, and I have to admit... It's up there with my all time fave celebrity fragrances. If you missed my review back in September I will give you a quick summary: Slightly dated and cheap looking bottle, fabulous fruity, exotic fragrance. All in all, I am a fan!

I was therefore excited by a new addition to Beyonce's line in the form of a big, bold and beautiful solid perfume ring.

I couldn't go without making a ring-related pun (If you don't know what I'm talking about then shame on you!) so it is far to say Beyonce took her own advice and put her own ring on it (the fragrance collection that is!)

The gorgeous fragrance is there and it is fair to say the ring is eye catching! The ring is certainly eye catching and unlike many of these products, could actually be worn as a piece of jewellery. It is quite chunky though, so if it's not your thing, it makes a lovely, different little gift or a great addition to your handbag, or perhaps even a keyring!

Priced at £20 and available now. I'd love to hear what you all think about this fragrance, and the concept of perfume rings... fabulous addition to a fragrance line up or an unnecissary luxury?
